Vicuña has taken another step forward in its development with the approval of the First and Second Updates to the Environmental Impact Report for the Josemaría deposit.

This update incorporates new studies and technical analyses that enable the project design to be optimized. Among the key changes is an extension of the estimated mine life from 19 to 25 years, along with an increase in ore processing capacity.

In terms of environmental sustainability, the report includes significant improvements, such as a multi-source water management plan designed to optimize water use and reduce the impact on local aquifers. In addition, the project is expected to incorporate new water sources and recover approximately 73% of process water, reaffirming the commitment to responsible water management.

Sections B, C, and D cover the stretch connecting Junta La Palca with La Majadita. This section represents the most extensive challenge, with approximately 107.4 km of construction including large-scale earthworks, engineering structures, drainage, and containment systems.

In total, the project covers more than 170 kilometers, forming a network that is essential for the long-term sustainability of the project.

These developments go hand in hand with Vicuña’s growth and strengthen its long-term outlook, creating new opportunities related to employment, supplier development, and economic activity in the region.

This milestone is the result of the sustained efforts of the teams driving the project, with a focus on responsible development and a commitment to doing things right.
