We aspire to create a multi-generational mining complex with synergies that could position it among the largest in the world.

Vicuña Corp. is a 50/50 joint venture between BHP and Lundin Mining, established to combine and operate the Josemaría and Filo del Sol deposits in the province of San Juan, Argentina, and the Atacama Region, Chile.

Why our work matters

The development of an integrated project such as Vicuña is significant due to its potential to:

Our Assets

Josemaría

A copper, silver, and gold deposit with an estimated mine life of more than 25 years, planned as a conventional open-pit operation with concentrate processing facilities. Located in San Juan, Argentina, it is currently in the pre-construction and permitting stage.

Filo del Sol

An epithermal copper, gold, and silver deposit recognized as one of the most significant within the Vicuña District. It is located 11 km from Josemaría, along the Argentina–Chile border, and is currently in active exploration.

Cumbre Verde

An epithermal copper, gold, and silver prospect with promising mineralization values, located near Josemaría and Filo del Sol within the Vicuña Belt.

Toward an Integrated Project

The combination of these assets has the potential to transform the Vicuña District into one of the largest mining complexes in the world, generating economies of scale, enhancing efficiency, and sustaining long-term operations.

Governance and Leadership

Our commitment to governance is reflected in a structure of specialized committees and adherence to best practices in compliance, environmental stewardship, disclosure, and engagement with communities and Indigenous peoples.

Our History

Since 1993, Lundin Group’s exploration efforts in the San Juan Andes have laid the foundations for what is now the Vicuña District, one of the most promising in the region. Decades of systematic exploration enabled the identification and development of world-class deposits such as Filo del Sol and Josemaría, geographically close, complementary, and with strong integration potential.

In 2024, Lundin Mining and BHP formed a 50/50 joint venture to develop both assets in an integrated manner, giving rise to Vicuña Corp. Today, Vicuña represents the evolution of more than 30 years of learning and long-term vision, with the objective of developing an integrated, multi-generational, and sustainable mining complex.
